1. I am the first generation to go to school in my family in Nepal. I am from poor Dalit family. I am a Hindu Dalit. I came to the United States as undocumented, fleeing caste and political persecution in Nepal. However, when I arrived I was very disappointed to learn that the same caste discrimination that I tried to escape is very present and alive in the United States.
2. I decided to go to the CSU East Bay for my MSW study. It was not easy for me to manage my home expenses. I have the family responsibility. I have to pay my rent, utilities, school fees, and complete my study. I thought to make research on Nepali Dalits’ caste discrimination experience in the Nepali diaspora living in the San Francisco Bay area. I was looking for the research fund. I tried to find research fund at my department, but it was not available. I heard about FFEI from the Director of Equality Lab Director Thenmozhi S. She connected me with Benjamin Kaila and the FFEI team who are very supportive and positive to me and my research project. They provided me $5000 as the research grant and $5000 as the study loan with zero interest. I am able to complete my research project by the support of FFEI.
3. For educational and financial growth, our Dalit, Adibashi and Bahujan communities are desperately in need of more and more scholarships and research grants. I think FFEI is the potential organization for empowering marginalized Dalit students.
4. I strongly believe the service of FFEI for the marginalized Dalit students and communities. Everyone should support FFEI and FFEI vision of empowering Dalit youths.
